How Indices Are Calculated
Data Sources
Index values are derived from real B2B transactions on the CanIDeal marketplace, supplemented by external market data sources. A minimum of 3 transactions is required before including data in any index calculation to ensure statistical relevance.
Update Frequency
Price snapshots are captured hourly. Full index recalculation runs daily at 2:00 AM UTC. OHLC (Open, High, Low, Close) data is available in hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly periods with 2 years of historical retention.
Composite Weighting
The GCMI and US_SPOT composite indices use transaction-volume weighting — markets with more active trading have proportionally greater influence on the composite value. This prevents low-liquidity markets from disproportionately affecting the benchmark.
Market Drivers
Our AI identifies and categorizes factors affecting each index — regulatory changes, supply disruptions, seasonal patterns, and demand shifts. Each driver is rated by severity (critical, high, medium, low) and direction (bullish, bearish, neutral) to provide context alongside raw price data.
